William Gould

William Gould is Professor of India History at the University of Leeds. 

He was educated at the University of Cambridge and has published four books and numerous articles/chapters on a range of themes in the social and political history of India in the 20th Century, three of which were published by Cambridge University Press.  His books have explored anti-colonial nationalism, ideas of citizenship and the working of the constitution, the nature of religious conflict, histories of tribe and caste, and the workings of the state.  He is currently running a large-scale project on the history of Indian anthropology. He has been actively involved in a number of public engagement projects, including The South Asia Heritage Month, Partition Commemoration, the support for The India Club and for Ambedkar House in London.  He is a member of the British Association of South Asian Studies
