Women at work: photographs from the V&A Collection

By Abhidha Niphade - recipient of the Curatorial Research Fellowship 2026

‘Women at Work’ is a new blog post from Abhidha Niphade, Curatorial Fellow in Photography supported by the Charles Wallace India Trust, Niphade’s project explores late 19th- to mid-20th-century photographs from the V&A collection, both identified and anonymous, focusing on narratives of women’s labour in textile production.

During my curatorial research fellowship at the V&A, I have been pursuing photographs of people working from the V&A’s vast collection of photographs. But I found myself keep returning to photographs where women are working.

Please read the full article on the V&A website and you can read more on Abhidha Niphade here.
