Scholarships

Every year CWIT offers two long term awards. These scholarships are for artists (all disciplines) and are usually for 10 months. The scholarships are very competitive and each year the grants panel has a tough job trying to identify the two people who are likely to benefit the most.

The scholarships are for artists and heritage professionals aged between 28–38 years and enables them to gain expertise in their chosen fields through postgraduate study (one year course) at a UK university. CWIT tends to favour those who wish to study at universities outside London. Please check the eligibility criteria before applying. Read more

Visiting Fellowships

There are more than a dozen fellowships to enable academics (historians and social scientists) as well as writers and translators to spend around three months, at a specified host university in the UK.

In addition, there are currently two artists’ residencies (visual arts) supported by CWIT at Gasworks and the Delfina Foundation. Read more

Research

There are approximately 20 grants awarded each year for short-term research. These grants are primarily for academic research scholars, however, professionals working in the arts or heritage conservation sectors may also apply to do short-term research.

CWIT provides £1,750 to each researcher, towards the costs of their stay in the UK. The funding is usually enough for a period of about three weeks. The grants are payable in the UK and do not cover the international travel costs. Read more

Our Grant Monitoring

As with all grant-making Trusts, CWIT is obliged to monitor the grants made. Our trustees enjoy reading the final reports from grantees and relative to other funders, we think that our grant conditions are fairly light touch. We do not have a template for the final report (which should not exceed 4 or 5 sides of A4), however, there are certain things that should be included. Read more with examples.
