“I soon became convinced that there are broadly two kinds of writers – those that face a wall and those that face a window. Some thrived on the stimulus of a view and others were more of the Maugham school. I remembered all the writing spaces where my books had grown and had to accept that I was unequivocally a ‘wall writer’. Then the pandemic happened.”
