Hetal's story

Hetal Varia is a world-renowned Mumbai-based Voice, Accent & Dialect coach.

With 15 years of experience in theatre, Hetal recently co-founded ‘Ekalavya’ - experiential online theatre training programmes - to make theatre training accessible. A co-founder and a resident teaching faculty at the Drama School Mumbai, Hetal has played a key role in contributing to the curriculum development and student selection systems.

CWIT enabled me to train at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, London. This training helped me gain extensive exposure and empowered me to present myself on a global platform.

Hetal is representing South Asian practises in voice work by collaborating with international artists and drama schools including the Bristol Old Vic, Central School of Speech and Drama and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. As a part of furthering diversity in teaching practises she recently spoke on an international panel of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Person of Colour) TV/Film Accent and Dialect Coaches for VASTA Conference and conducted workshops for Central School’s Global Voice Unit.

The CWIT experience was important as it helped me to push my boundaries and find the courage to realise my dreams. My experience in London has shaped my work in more than one way and made me confident in the work that I practice.

Hetal has been a voice coach to many industry professionals including Alexander Siddig, Charlie Hunnam, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Pratik Gandhi, Mithila Palkar, Sonali Kulkarni, Abhimanyu Dassani, Manoj Bajpayee and others. Most recently, she served as the Dialect Coach for the cast of A Suitable Boy, Shantaram, Pahadon Mein, and has many on-going productions
